LAHORE, Nov 9: Indian High Commissioner Sharat Sabharwal on Friday while dispelling the impression of security concerns in the wake of recent threats made by Shiv Sena assured foolproof security arrangements for Pakistan cricket squad, scheduled to visit India in December-January.

Pakistan are to tour India for a short limited-overs bilateral series from Dec 22 to Jan 7, featuring three One-day Internationals and two Twenty20 games.

Talking to reporters at the Gaddafi Stadium here on Friday  where he met PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf, the commissioner to a question about Shiv Sena’s threat, though did not quote the name of any such party, assured foolproof security for the high-profile series in India.

“There will be no issue of security and every match of the series [in India] will be played according to the plan,” he emphasised.

During the meeting with the PCB chairman, the subject of issuing visas to Pakistan fans (for the cricket series) was also discussed, the Indian official added.

“Though presently I cannot say anything but we are trying to issue maximum visas to Pakistani fans willing to watch matches there [in India],” he stated.

Like the past, he hoped, sports would continue to play a positive role in bringing the people of the two countries closer.

To a question, Sabharwal said he was not in a position to confirm that the Indian cricket team would also undertake a return tour to Pakistan.

“It is the job of the two cricket boards to finalise the modalities of [a] tour and then the Indian government issues a clearance to it,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, Zaka said an advanced PCB delegation would go to India in the last week of November to assess security and other arrangements made by the BCCI for the Pakistan team’s tour.
