ISLAMABAD, Nov 7: People’s Party MNA Syed Zafar Ali Shah has demanded of the government to hold by-elections on a provincial assembly seat of Naushero Feroze under the supervision of the army, despite his own party’s rule in Sindh.
Mr Shah, who made the demand during a press conference on Wednesday, is known for criticising his party’s leaders over “their wrong policies”.
Alleging large-scale transfers in the constituency ahead of the by-polls, Mr Shah has fielded his nephew Zohaib Shah against his party’s nominee for the PS-21 seat. “The government is trying hard, by hook or by crook, to get PPP candidate to win the election,” Mr Shah said while addressing the press conference at the National Press Club.
Massive transfers and postings of handpicked officials in the constituency, including police officers ahead of polls was a negation of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rules, he alleged. Three candidates — PPP’s Syed Sarfaraz Shah, National People’s Party (NPP) leader Ibrar Shah and independent candidate Zohaib Shah — are in the run for the seat.
