PESHAWAR, Nov 23: The students visiting the examination and secrecy sections of Peshawar University have accused the office staff of fleecing the students.
They said that instead of improving the standards by giving relief to the students and imparting knowledge most of the officials were busy making money.
Talking to Dawn, the students, present at the examination and secrecy department, condemned the authorities for asking to deposit more fee for DMCs for which they had already deposited the prescribe fee.
A student from Mardan, who recently passed his BA said that the other day he received his DMC after depositing Rs125 with the university. However, his BA part-I result was declared “Result Late (RL)” even though he had passed the examination two years ago.
After producing the passed DMC of part-I, he said, the then authorities demanded a further deposit Rs100 for DMC.
He says: “I have the original copy of passed Detailed Marks Certificate (DMC) of BA part-I. After the final result, however, to his surprise the same part-I was written as Result Late (RL) which had already been declared passed. Upon showing the DMC, the secrecy department clerks asked him to deposit Rs100 more for obtaining DMC.
However, majority of the students showed anger over the rechecking of papers and said that it is nothing but an income generating exercise.
Sahib Noor, Roll No 42966, a student from the far-flung district Buner, said that many pay the fee to have their papers rechecked but only a few benefit from it.
HE SAID: “In most cases it is not rechecking but re-totalling of marks.”
Similarly, Saif-ur-Rehman, another student of BA spoke against the callous attitude of clerks of the secrecy and examination department.
Referring to a recent statement of the vice-chancellor, Dr Syed Zulfiqar Gillani, of making Peshawar University a world-class educational institution, Saif-ur-Rehman said that under the present system it could not even compete with the local universities, what to say of foreign universities.
