PESHAWAR: Mohtarema Miss Fatima Jinnah said today (Nov 5) that the restrictions on Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan, former President of the All-Pakistan Muslim League, showed the inherent weakness of those who had imposed these restrictions.

Miss Jinnah was speaking at a reception given in her honour on behalf of the citizens of Peshawar at the Assembly lawn here.

Miss Jinnah said that from every nook and corner of Pakistan, a voice is being issued against continuing restrictions on Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan, and she failed to understand why these restrictions were not lifted.

Miss Jinnah demanded that it is time to follow strictly the principles of democracy and all tendencies to curb public opinion should be checked. She said that people demand that all issues which involve the country’s integrity and the question of people’s rights should be placed before them. This wish of the people should be fulfilled with absolute faith and confidence in [them]. This was, she said, the secret of Quaid-i-Azam’s success and this was the main cause of confidence which people had reposed in him. It is time now to follow in the footsteps of the Father of the Nation, she said.—Staff Correspondent

Bhashani ends hunger-strike DACCA: The President of the former National Awami Party, Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, today (Nov 5) ended his 11-day-old hunger-strike.

The Maulana had his first sip of water, offered by the National Front leader, Mr H.S. Suhrawardy, and a student at 5.25pm.

Maulana Bhashani finally agreed to break his fast when a number of student leaders gave a written understanding to fight for the realisation of the Maulana’s four-point demand in a constitutional way. Besides Mr Suhrawardy, Mr Ataur Rahman Khan and Shaikh Mujibur Rahman were present when he ended his hunger-strike.

Talking to newsmen later, the Maulana thanked all those who had requested him to end his fast.—Staff Correspondent
