Two children killed in celebratory firing

KHAR, Nov 5: Two children were killed and three seriously injured in celebratory firing during a wedding function in Gabari village of Mamond tehsil in Bajaur Agency on Monday.

People said the incident took place after a man lost control of his gun firing bullets in the air to celebrate the wedding.

They said the firing killed two children instantly, while three were injured who were taken to the local hospital, where their condition was stated to be critical.

The accused fled after the incident.

The local administration registered the case against him and began investigation.

GIRLS INJURED: Four girl students were injured after the boundary wall of their government primary school fell on them in Dak Qala area of Bajaur Agency on Monday.

Locals said the students were sitting by the wall when the incident took place.

They said the injured were taken to the Agency Headquarters Hospital, Khar, where their condition was stated to be critical.

An official said that the political administration has launched an investigation into the wall collapse incident.

Also in the day, member of the Mamond peace committee Nazir Gul, who was recently taken away by militants during an attack on border, returned home.

NADRA CENTRE VIRTUALLY SHUT: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) swift registration centre in Bajaur Agency has virtually been closed over a fault in computer system.

Sources told Dawn on Monday that the main server at the centre had developed a fault last week forcing the management to suspend work.

They said the fault had yet to be rectified.

An official of the centre said the service had been suspended temporarily.

“We have called the technical staff for rectifying the fault but they have yet to show up,” he said.

Meanwhile, visitors, mostly non-locals, complained that they were stressed out by the suspension service at the centre.

“I have been visiting the centre everyday for one week to apply for my computerised national identity card but the centre offers no service citing fault in computer system as a reason,” Naimat Jan, a resident of Mamond, said.
