LAHORE, Nov 2: Former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Friday the judiciary had no powers to dissolve the Balochistan government.
Talking to reporters at the Lahore Press Club, Gilani said the mandate of the Balochistan government should be respected otherwise separatist elements would benefit from it.
“The government should look into the matters of Balochistan as the judiciary has no powers to dissolve the government,” he said.
Flanked by Evacuee Trust Board Chairman Asif Hashmi and the press club office bearers, Gilani said all institutions should act in accordance with the Constitution and should not interfere in each other’s matters.
He said he was not allowed to complete his term as prime minister, but the parliament should.
Gilani said he was removed from his office as he had raised voice for the creation of south Punjab province. He said he protected the Constitution by not writing a letter to the Swiss authorities regarding reopening of graft cases against the president.
“I still hold my opinion and let’s see if the judiciary accepts my stance in this regard in the letter to be written to the Swiss authorities,” Gilani said.
