Factory owner recovered, two ‘kidnappers’ killed

KARACHI, Nov 2: Two suspected kidnappers were killed in a shoot-out in Sohrab Goth, while a kidnapped factory owner was recovered on Friday.

The owner of a bread factory, 45-year-old Karim Ali Momin, was kidnapped by six armed suspects on the day of Eidul Azha, October 27, from the factory in F.B. Industrial Area, said Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) chief SP Niaz Ahmed Khosa.

The kidnappers also demanded a ransom of Rs6 million, he added.

Acting on a tip-off, the AVCC with the help of Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) conducted a raid in Ayub Goth. A shoot-out followed in which two suspects were killed while four of their accomplices managed to escape, said SP Khosa, adding that Mr Momin was recovered from the hideout.

The police also seized two AK-47 rifles, two TT pistols and several rounds of ammunition which they found at the hideout.

The bodies of the suspected kidnappers were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre but their identities could not be ascertained.

The CPLC chief Ahmed Chinoy said that it was the second such raid in which the hostage was rescued successfully after an encounter with the kidnappers.—Staff Reporter
