KARACHI, Nov 2: The Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights sought on Friday a report from the Sindh government about those prisoners who had been released on parole during the past 10 years.

A meeting of the committee presided over by its chairman Afrasiab Khattak was held at the office of the Sindh chief secretary.

The senators expressed concern over the law and order situation in Karachi. The meeting emphasised the need for conceiving a concentrated intelligence sharing system among the provinces as a means to improve law and order.

Mr Khattak said that political parties should play their role to establish lasting peace in the city. He said there was a need for legislation for issuing arms licences and for recovery of illegal weapons.

He said the committee would prepare its suggestions for improving the law and order in the city and send the same to the federal and provincial governments.
