HYDERABAD, Jan 4: Hyderabad District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman here on Friday inaugurated construction work of a wall along the Phulelli Canal.

The superintending engineer, irrigation, in his briefing, said that with the completion of the wall at the cost of Rs85 million, a large population of Paretabad and Lalu Lashari village would be protected against overflow of the canal water during Monsoon.

He said that according to original schedule, the scheme was to be completed in four years but it would now be completed in two years with the help of the district government.

Speaking on the occasion, the district Nazim said that it was the long standing demand of the residents of the area to raise a protective wall along the canal.

He added that another scheme of sewerage disposal was also being prepared so as to prevent sewerage water from entering the Phulelli Canal.

He said that efforts were being made to construct a public park and playground in Paretabad while another bridge would also be constructed over the Phulelli Canal for the convenience of the people.

He said that a metalled road would also be constructed on the banks of the canal.
