LAHORE, Nov 1: Young doctors continued agitation on Thursday and blocked Jail Road for two hours to press the government for the provision of service structure.

Gathered on the call of the Young Doctors Association Punjab President Dr Hamid Butt, the doctors also staged a rally and raised slogans against the provincial government and the bureaucracy in health and finance departments for not considering their legitimate demand.

According to the schedule, the young doctors from all teaching institutions of the provincial capital assembled at Services Hospital at 11am and later marched towards Jail Road where they staged a sit-in.

As the police had blocked one side of Jail Road before agitation to facilitate the protestors, the traffic remained chocked on all adjoining roads leading to Services Hospital.

Several patients could not reach the hospital owing to the closure of the road and the protest by young doctors.

Early in the morning, YDA activists took a round of various departments of state-run hospitals in groups to ask their colleagues to reach the venue on time. A majority of the protesting doctors did not join their duties at hospitals and reached Jail Road directly to participate in the agitation.

Addressing the rally, Dr Hamid Butt announced that their agitation would continue till the acceptance of their demand.

He said a major protest would be launched on Nov 7 outside the Chief Minister House where hundreds of young doctors would reach from district and teaching hospitals of the province. The protesting doctors would not leave the place till the acceptance of their longstanding demand, he said.
