TIMERGARA, Jan 4: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani declared here on Saturday that enforcement of Islamic system in the province was round the corner and now there were no ifs and buts in this regard.

“We have given a word to the masses during and after the electioneering for moulding the existence laws in the lights of the Islamic injunctions.”

He said the MMA government had set up a commission in the province to review the recommendations of the Islamic Ideological Council which would be enforced in the province in letter and in spirit.

Talking to local elite and notables here, the Chief Minister said Islamisation in the province was the first priority of the MMA government. “We are tied in religious bonds and would strengthen these bonds,” Akram declared.

The people had voted the MMA to power and now it was its turn to deliver the goods, he said, adding that the love of the people of Dir Lower towards Islam was above question and the government would come up to their expectations.

The basic aim of his visit to the area, he said, was to know the people’s problems on the ground and take measures for their solution.

He was to undertake visits to all other districts of the province to set government’s priorities, he added.

Pointing towards the scenario taking shape at the international level, Durrani asserted the world had fixed its eyes on the people of the Frontier province.

The government here was being monitored and advised the people that since they had sacrificed everything for the sake of Islam and now the time had come, the people should show the spirit of love and tolerance. “This spirit is needed more today than before.”

He also held out an assurance that his government would spare no time in resolution of long-standing problems and demands of the people.

The chief minister rejected the unnecessary media hype regarding a rift in the ranks of the MMA. All religious and political parties constituting the MMA were united and would continue to serve the masses from the same platform, he added.

Referring to the development strategy of his government, the chief minister said that his government would ensure due share of all parts of the province and there would be no concept of workers of this party or that party. All would be treated equally, he added.

Durrani advised the people to support the government in its quest for securing a society free from all sorts of exploitation.

He said he had directed the police authorities that respect should be given to people in the police stations and all should be treated equally.

The days of bribes and commissions were over and now there would be no commissions by the patwaris and tehsildars, because they had been striped of their powers and authority to do so.

He asked the people to supplement the government efforts in purging society from corruption and all other ills.

He was optimistic that with the help of the people the MMA government would triumph in promoting good and exterminating evil.

Earlier, Khurshid Khan, a notable of the area while presenting the address of welcome, threw light on the problems facing the district and demanded their redressal.

He thanked the chief minister for undertaking a visit to the district and expressed the hope that he would take special interest in resolving the problems of this area also.—APP
