Meadowlea in final

LAHORE, Jan 3: Meadowlea entered the final of the New Year Cup polo defeating Master Paints 6-5 1/2 on Friday.

Umar Sadik, Isfandyar Pataudi and Saqib Khan Khakwani scored two goals each for the winners.

For Master Paints, with 1 1/2 goal handicap, Hissam Ali Hyder scored thrice while Arslan Najeeb added a goal.

Umar and Isfandyar ended Master Paints’s lead on the handicap, when the first chukker closed. Umar scored both his goals  while Isfandyar slammed in his first. Hissam struck back with his first goal to make it 3- 2 1/2 for Meadowlea.

Meadowlea regained the lead through Hissam’s second goal in the second chukker. However the lead was shortlived, when Saqib retaliated by scoring his first goal which again gave his team 4-3 1/2 lead.

Third chukker was goalless.

Arsalan  struck  his only goal at the start of the fourth  chukker putting the loser once again in the lead 4 1/2-4.

Meadowlea hit through Pataudi and Saqib to lead 6-4 1/2. However, Hissam reduced the margin before the end.

Earlier, in the subsidiary match, two goals by Sattar Niazi, and one each from Ahmed Ali Tiwana and Taimur Mawaz  Khan, helped ZPF to beat  Tuff  Tiles 4-3 1/2.

For  Tuff  Tiles Talha Saeed, Yaqoob  and Asif Zahoor scored a goal each. Half goal was given to them for  their handicap.
