LAHORE, Oct 26: City District Government of Lahore’s transport wing on Friday imposed a fine of Rs37,000 on 37 transporters for overcharging at various bus terminals in the city.

The department also got the fare returned to 431 passengers who were overcharged by transporters.

“Since the beginning of a crackdown on transporters on Thursday, we have fined over 109 transporters, imposing a fine of Rs109,000 on them. Besides this we have also got returned fare to over 2,000 passengers from the transporters,” District Road Transportation Authority (DRTA) Secretary Mohsin Rashid told Dawn.

He said the department had also impounded several buses after their owners overcharged the passengers.

He said besides the monitoring of all bus terminals by special squads and DRTA teams, the district coordination officer along with various CDGL officials was paying surprise visits to the bus stands located near Badami Bagh, Yatim Khana Chowk, Babu Sabu, Shera Kot, Bund Road, Ferozepur Road and Thokar Niaz Beg. He requested the people to contact the department’s teams in case of any problem relating to overcharging and shortage of buses.

NO HOILDAY: The CDGL has cancelled Eid holidays of all those officials engaged in various cleanliness activities in the city.

“In order to keep the city clean, we have cancelled Eid holidays of the entire LWMC and Wasa field officials concerned,” DCO Noorul Amin Mengal said while talking to animal traders during his visit to a cattle market in LDA Avenue-I.

Hearing traders’ complaints, the DCO ordered the officials to provide necessary facilities to the market.
