MIRPURKHAS, Oct 25: Senator Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) said that his party would launch a mass mobilisation campaign in Sindh, after Eidul Azha, to convince the people to vote for it.
He said that the party will hold public meetings across the province and tell people about the losses incurred by the local government bill, the party’s comprehensive agriculture policy and will try to persuade the people to vote for the PML-F because the party had a comprehensive plan for the benefit of the country.
Senator Shah was addressing a press conference at the Raja house on Thursday in the presence of the party’s divisional and district office bearers. He said that the government’s tenure was going to end on March 18, 2013 and like other political parties the PML-F too was chalking out its mass-contact programmes. He said that the party’s public gathering after Eid would be addressed by Pir Pagara who would apprise the people about the PML-F’s policies on various issues, especially agriculture.
However, said Senator Shah, the venue for the first public gathering of the PML-F is yet to be decided.
He claimed that people were joining PML-F in droves and the party was trying to provide a parallel leadership on the provincial level. He said that PML-F will give priority to problems of the masses.
Talking about the local government law, the senator said that people had appreciated his party’s stand and on the issue. He said that the Sindhi people had rejected the bill, which was an effort to divide Sindh, and this kind of double system cannot function in the province.
While replying to a question, he said that the PML-F had run an effective campaign in and out of the Sindh assembly cited the various strikes called by the party as an example.
In reply to another question, Senator Shah said that a seven-member committee had been set up in the senate to discuss and solve election-related problems. According to him, setting up of polling booths still needs to be decided but it would be done a month or so before the elections. He said that the election commission had assured them that the polling venues would not be changed after they were decided.
He said that the PML-F had recommended to the election commissioner to seek military help for security arrangements at polling booths.
The party also recommended removing the names of deceased people from the voters’ list and entering names of people who were not included in the list.
Talking about draining flood water, the senator said that he had requested the prime minister to announce a drainage scheme for Sanghar district.
While talking about the Mirpurkhas district he said that the spinal drain of Left bank Outfall Drain and other major drains had little capacity for carrying water. He said that the capacity of the drains, especially the spinal drain, needed to increased to hold at least 9,000 cusecs of water to be able drain Mirpurkhas district during the monsoon season.
