LARKANA, Oct 25: Sindh Minister for Law and Prison Ayaz Soomro has announced two-month remission for prisoners in Sindh jails on Eidul Azha.
The ministry of prison had submitted a summary to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah for the remission, which was approved.
Addressing a cultural event held in the Central Prison of Larkana on Wednesday, the minister said that with two-month remission, some 65 prisoners would be released and 835 would get benefit in their sentences.
He said a training academy for jail officials would soon be established in Ratodero for which a plot of 50 acres had been procured and construction work would begin soon.
The minister claimed that not a single cruel jail officer was posted in all 27 jails and asked jail inmates not to violate laws in the jail. He said the government was trying to provide maximum facilities to prisoners.
He said the jail superintendent of the Central Prison of Larkana had been asked to submit a report regarding establishing carpet industry.
On the occasion, the minister also distributed clothes among prisoners as Eid gift.
Speaking on the occasion, DIG jails Gulzar Channa appreciated the minister’s efforts in enhancing the facilities in jails, referring to an increase in medicine budget from Rs250,000 to Rs25,000,000. He claimed 100 per cent production of prisoners in respective courts because according to him transport fleet had been added with new vehicles.
He said that for repair and renovation at different jails in Sindh, an amount of Rs1,84,000,000 had been earmarked.
A music evening was also held on the occasion.
Larkana Commissioner Dr Saeed Ahmed Mangnejo, Vice-Chancellor of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical University Prof Dr Akbar Haider Soomro, vice-president of Larkana PPP Khair Muhammed Shaikh and other party workers attended the music evening.
