Literature, democracy conference

ISLAMABAD, Oct 25: Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) has announced to organise an international conference on ‘Literature and Democracy’ which will be held on November 10 and 11 in Islamabad.

Along with international delegates, renowned scholars of Pakistan including Dr Javed Iqbal, Munir Ahmed Badini from Balochistan, Mushtaq Ahmad Yusufi, Intizar Hussain and others will address the conference which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.

Chairman PAL Abdul Hameed while addressing the conference committee said that the main objective of the conference was to bridge the gap between writers of different Pakistani languages, highlight the positive role of the writers in the promotion of democratic value in the society and promote dialogue among the writers.He said that poets and intellectuals always work as a source to promote democratic values and helped in forming public opinion.

The chairman further said that the prominent scholars from all parts of the country will present their articles to highlight the efforts they made for raising awareness among people about democracy.

E expressed the hope that this event will also be a source of inspiration for young writers.

Media coordinator of PAL Ali Yasir while talking to Dawn said that conference would play an important role in projecting the soft image of the country and participants of foreign delegation would convey a message to foreigners that Pakistan was a safe country to travel.
