HYDERABAD, Jan 3: The Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench, on Friday issued notices to the regional police officer (RPO), Hyderabad; the DPO, Hyderabad; the additional DPO, Hyderabad; the DSP, Site; and the SHO, Hali Road police station, for Jan 8 over a constitutional petition, filed by a transporter, challenging the arrests of workers of Aurangzeb Pathan and sealing of his petrol pump by the police following the killing of two men — Ismail Gaddi and Haneef Pathan — on Dec 30 at the Hali Road. The additional AG, Sindh, has also been put on notice.

Advocate Umer Deen Qureshi filed the petition on behalf of Mohammad Yasin, the manager of Aurangzeb Pathan, vice president, ANP.

The petitioner said that the police officials had illegally sealed the terminus of the Al-Shahzad Coaster Service and Pak Karachi Coach in the wake of the double murder, adding that the police officials also arrested the employees of the petitioner.

He said that he approached the police officials but in vain.

The petitioner accused the police officials of trying to create a law and order situation on the insistence of a particular group of transporters.

He prayed the court to restrain the respondent police officials from taking the law into their hands by harassing and issuing threats to the petitioner, and conductors of the buses.

The lawyer contended that the respondents’ act was against the Constitution because article 18 guarantees freedom of trade or profession to every citizen.

The court issued notices to the respondents and AAG, Sindh.
