GUJAR KHAN, Oct 24: The police refused to register a case of attempted murder filed by a trader who had been shot at and injured while resisting a robbery attempt here on Tuesday.

According to sources, Mohammad Rafaqat, a resident of Jhanda in Gujar Khan City, was returning home after closing his PCO located on Qazian Road when he was intercepted by three armed men.

He was ordered to hand over all his belonging at gunpoint. When Mr Rafaqat tried to resist them, he was shot at and deprived of five cellphones, several cellphone cards and cash of Rs15,000.

The injured was initially shifted to the hospital by a passerby and later to Rawalpindi in critical condition.

Rafaqat Hussain narrated the whole incident to the Gujar Khan police, but they did not register a case of attempt on life under section 324/34.Sub Inspector Arif, when contacted, said the attack may be the handiwork of enemies of the victim.

Residents urged upon the regional police officers to take measures against the rising crime in Gujar Khan. Some residents of the eastern areas of the tehsil were left with no option but to migrate due to the unchecked criminal activities.
