PESHAWAR: Militants targeted the Awami National Party headquarters, Bacha Khan Markaz on Main Paggai Road on the outskirts of the city with a bomb.

The blast damaged a boundary wall, but no loss of life has been reported.

Earlier on, the attackers had fired a number of shots at the ANP headquarters before the blast, but no one was hurt in that attack either, police officials said.

ANP senior minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour, while speaking to the media, said that the militants wanted to make headlines by attacking the Bacha Khan Markaz.  He informed that about half a kilograms explosive was used in the blast.

"Bacha Khan Markaz is the symbol of peace for Pakhtuns and is symbolically important for the nationalist party. The militants want to terrorise people by such attacks but they cannot shatter their will and this headquarter of peace will remain intact," he said.

The party’s chief Asfandyar Wali Khan and KPK president Afrasyab Khattak also condemned the attack on the Markaz.
