NEW DELHI, Jan 2: A severe spell of cold weather has led to the deaths of 48 people in northern India, news reports said on Thursday.

A government official in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh told the Times of India newspaper 24 people have died in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 48.—dpa
