Extortion case: arrest warrant out for complainant

KARACHI, Oct 20: An anti-terrorism court issued on Saturday a non-bailable warrant for the arrest of a doctor for failing to appear in court to testify in an extortion case.

Rahib Hussain alias Badshah Magsi, Irshad and Abdul Malik have been charged with extorting money from Dr Syed Irfan Yazdani by putting him in the fear of death within the remit of the Frere police station in Sept 2011.

Judge Ghulam Mustafa Memon of the ATC-III observed that Dr Yazdani was the complainant in the case and on a previous hearing he had appeared with his counsel and sought adjournment by stating that his mother was unwell and he was not in a position to testify, but he would appear in court on Oct 20 (today).

“The investigating officer Muhammad Ishaq Lashari has reported that the abovementioned complainant was served with notice and bound down to appear before the court on Saturday. Neither he appeared before this court nor sent any intimation in this regard,” the court said.

“Since long matter is fixed for evidence of the complainant and same is hitherto not recorded due to his negligent cum hostile attitude. Issue NBW against the complainant,” the court ruled. It also directed that a police officer of DSP rank be deputed to produce him in court on Oct 24.—Staff Reporter
