LAHORE, Jan 2: The Joint Action Committee of teachers, doctors and students on Thursday paid salaries to seven dismissed teachers and a doctor out of the adversity fund.
Another doctor was also given a compensation allowance.
Speaking at a news conference, JAC chairman Nazim Hasnain said the chief minister had failed to keep his promise to reinstate the sacked teachers and doctors even after the lapse of three weeks. He claimed that the chief minister had clearly stated that the sacked officials would be back on jobs soon after they would submit appeals to review the decision.
Since the teachers had not yet been reinstated, Mr Hasnain said they had been given salaries out of the adversity fund. He said the money collected from teachers and doctors community would continue to be used to pay salaries to the dismissed teachers.
Answering a question, he said the affected doctors and teachers, including himself, would not be required to refund these salaries even if they would get their all financial benefits after getting reinstated.
Mr Hasnain said the CM-JAC meeting on Dec 13 had decided that two committees would be constituted to discuss the issues of the constitution of boards of governors in educational and health institutions, prospective of the newly-established general education universities as well as the medical university, review of teachers and doctors’ appointment on a contract basis, service security for teachers serving in technical education institutions and implementation of the Model University Ordinance in the Punjab.
He said the CM had also constituted two committees headed by Justice Ghulam Mujaddid Mirza (retired) to report within two weeks. However, he said the CM-JAC meeting decisions were immediately changed and only one commission was formed. He said the commission had neither been able to finalize the report nor discussed the issues pertaining to schools, technical education institutions and general and medical universities.
He said the situation had started creating doubts about the spirit behind the constitution of the commission and its prospective reports.
Mr Hasnain said the JAC had called its executive council meeting to review the situation and formulate action plan.
Besides the sacked teachers and doctors, Prof (Dr) Haris Rasheed, Muhammad Tariq, Naveed Anwar and others were present on the occasion.
