Boy commits suicide

RAWALPINDI, Oct 18: A six-grade student committed suicide after being scolded by his mother for showing unwillingness to continue education due to poor results.

Hamza Ashraf, 11, whose mother was divorced shortly after her marriage with Mohammad Ashraf 12 years back, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his room at Dhoke Khaba on Thursday afternoon.

His mother Noreen Tabasum had gone to work when she was informed by her nephew about the incident. When she reached home, she found her only son hanging with a rope.

Police said Ashraf was studying at a boarding school in Fatehjhang and had returned home on Tuesday.

He was reportedly taunted by his mother after he showed her his poor performance report and said he was no more willing to continue his studies.

The boy went into distress after being scolded by his mother who wished him to continue his studies. Ms Tabasum has been working at a pharmaceutical factory in Islamabad to earn her livelihood since she was divorced.

Moving scenes were witnessed at the District Headquarters Hospital when the body of the boy was handed over to her sobbing mother. — Staff Reporter
