ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) approved on Wednesday a 44 paisa per unit reduction in tariff of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) under monthly fuel adjustment charges, providing a partial relief on a 51 paisa increase for the month of November.
At a public hearing, the regulator approved two requests by the KESC to reduce tariff by about 7 paisa per unit for July and 37 paisa for August.
The petition was based on figures which suggested that the cost of the company’s own generation and that of independent power producers had declined by Rs105 million and Rs517 million for July and August.
Nepra approved the tariff reduction but withheld the schedule for passing on its impact to consumers.
An official said the authority would decide about the actual tariff adjustment when it would notify the revised tariff in a couple of days.
Given the fact that Nepra allowed a 51 paisa increase in the fuel-based tariff for June and notified its recovery during November, a seven paisa per unit higher recovery from consumers is likely.—Staff Reporter
