IO held for implicating trader in fake case

LAHORE, Oct 13: The Lower Mall investigation police arrested its former investigation in charge, Inspector Ali Ahmad Goraya, in connection with a fake narcotics-cum-illegal arms case which he had registered against a Sheikhupura-based iron trader a couple of months ago.

A high-level departmental inquiry held Goraya and his team guilty of implicating Arif Ali Ramay in the case at the ‘behest’ of a PML-N MNA from Sheikhupura. The inquiry also recommended action against the officials.

The inquiry was initiated only after Ramay, who is also a local PML-N activist, was detained by a police team led by Lower Mall investigation wing ASI Muhammad Mahboob on Aug 30.

He was booked for possessing 15 parcels of hashish, two packets of opium weighing 1,400 grams and an unlicensed pistol. A source privy to the development told Dawn that Goraya was under interrogation for his more revelations and confessions.

He said some influential personalities could also be included in the investigation and taken into custody if required.

ARRESTED: Racecourse investigation police claimed on Saturday to have arrested four robbers, including a woman, involved in a house robbery and seized looted valuables worth Rs2 million.

A police team constituted by the Civil Lines SP (Investigation) arrested  Razzaq, Ghulam Rasool, Shaukat and Zainab who had looted gold, cell phones, laptops, electronic goods and valuables from Link Club Road residence of Dr Sarwar on Aug 28. — Staff Reporter
