MANSEHRA, Oct 10: Ahl-i-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) on Wednesday announced to contest the next general elections in Mansehra.

“Like other parts of the country, we’ll field candidates on two National Assembly and six provincial assembly seats (in Mansehra) hoping for the best,” local ASW general secretary Qari Shamsur Rehman told reporters in Balakot area.

He said his party would name candidates for the next elections next week and that they all would work for the enforcement of Shariah in the country if people elected them to power.

HAZARA UNIVERSITY CELEBRATIONS: A ceremony was held at Hazara University to mark the completion of 10 years of the university’s establishment on Wednesday.

“I am satisfied with the achievements we have made during 10 years. We are the 8th best university in Pakistan and second in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa among 98 government universities,” said Hazara University vice chancellor Dr Sakhawat Shah at the ‘Productive Scientific Award’ ceremony.

The event began with a walk on public awareness of productivity and ended at the main gate of the university after marching through different roads.

Mr Shah hoisted the university’s flag to mark the day.

He later said the Oct 2005 earthquake deprived the university and its students of many facilities.

“Despite the calamity, we continued with our mission and thus, managing the number of enrollments to cross the 9,000 mark,” said Mr Shah.

The vice-chancellor said 32 teaching departments imparted quality education and research to apprise students of modern knowledge and latest scientific discoveries.

He said members of the university’s many facilities were abroad pursuing their PhDs in prestigious universities.

“Though many have returned after completion of PhDs, we still have many more abroad,” said Mr Shah.
