Passing accountability bill in current form equals legalising corruption: Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday said that voting in favour of the National Accountability Commission Bill in its current form was tantamount to legalising corruption, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives outside the Parliament House, Khan said the accountability bill was the most significant matter engaging the National Assembly.

He said the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-) was not the biggest hurdle in the passing of the bill and in fact it wanted to ease the process.

Khan said the PML-N had put in a significant amount of work in the preparation of the bill, adding that, the impression that the PML-N was blocking its passage was inaccurate.

The PML-N leader said his party did not want any corrupt individuals to escape accountability and added that the bill in its current form was “not an accountability bill but a dacoity bill”.

The leader of the opposition also condemned the attack on rights activist Malala Yousufzai in Mingora and said that such incidents raised a host of questions with regard to the government's performance.
