Security beefed up after attacks on PPP lawmakers in Sindh

KARACHI: Security was beefed up by the provincial government on Tuesday after MPAs and provincial ministers belonging to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) were attacked with crackers and grenades in Sindh, DawnNews reported.

Sindh Local Government Minister Agha Siraj Durrani came under attack in wee hours of Tuesday in Shikarpur’s Garhi Yaseen area when unidentified men attacked the residence of the PPP minister damaging the outside wall of his residence. The number of policemen, providing security to Durrani, was increased and a three-member investigative committee was formed to probe the incident.

In Larkana, a cracker was hurled at the residence of Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro. However, it could not detonate.

Unknown men fled away after hurling a hand grenade at the Hyderabad residence of MPA Imdad Patafi, who was elected from Tando Allahyar. No casualties were reported however Patafi's residence was partially damaged.

Meanwhile, a suspicious bag with pamphlets from Sindhu Desh Liberation Army was found at the residence of PPP MPA Mir Hayat Talpur in the Digree area of Mirpur Khas. Subsequently, an extra contingent of police was posted outside his house.

In a similar incident, a five kilogram bomb was defused at the residence of MPA Fasih Shah in Nawabshah.

Moreover, a hand made bomb was defused from Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Khuhro’s residence in Larkana.

Earlier on Sunday, six activists of the PPP and a reporter working for a TV channel were killed and 10 people, including three reporters and the administrator of Khairpur Taluka Municipal Administration, injured when a group of gunmen opened fire on a PPP public meeting in Khairpur's Sadoro Janwari village.
