LAHORE, Oct 7: Odds-on favourite three-year-old filly Domination proved worth her name when she dominated a weak looking field to win the Spring Cup during the 5th Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.
Ridden by jockey M. Zulfiqar for trainer Amjad Ali II, the filly — twice beaten on her previous runs — ran like a champion filly to beat dark-bay filly Boneka by a distance run in 1,200 metres race with bay filly Golden Rose third another three lengths back. Another filly Limitless completed the frame in an all fillies affair.
Seven class five division III runners faced the starter for the feature and the seventh event of the day.
A race later 2-1 shot bay filly Dora came with a late run to edge out the 60-100 favourite filly Bon Voyage at the end of 1,000 metres on firm turf with bay colt Bingo third about two length back.
Ridden by jockey Aamir Pervez, Dora pipped Bon Voyage, partnered by leading jockey Shahid Rehman, at the finishing line.
Trainers Amjad Ali II and Shazer John shared the day’s honours by bringing home a brace of winners each. Amjad registered his double sending out Geo Shan Se and Domination in the fifth and seventh race while John, who took up training of race-horses as a career earlierthis year, saddled Shan-e-Tajpur and Young Story in the fourth and sixth race, respectively.
Among riders, Shahid Rehman had an unlucky afternoon when his both mounts Bon Voyage and Brave Zoia were beaten to second spot in the eighth and ninth race.
