MANSEHRA, Oct 3: A man on Wednesday killed his wife in Battagram and her alleged paramour in Mansehra.

Police said Mohammad Umar first gunned down his wife in Shakarbanda area in Battagram in the wee hours of Wednesday and then went to Mansehra, where he shot Mohammad Hanif dead.

They said a jirga had decreed that the two be killed in line with local traditions for being ‘lovers’.

In charge of the city police station Zulfiqar Jadoon told Dawn that police wanted to autopsy the bodies but a local court stopped them from doing so at the request of the relevant families.

Also in the day, the body of a missing shopkeeper was found on the bank of the Siren River in Khaki area on Wednesday.

Zaheer Ahmad had gone missing on Monday when he went to Rawalpindi to buy goods for his shop.

Police found the body dumped on the bank of the Siren River after being informed about it by an unidentified man.

They later shifted the body to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, where the shopkeeper’s family recognised him.

The slain shopkeeper’s brother said his family had no enmity in the area.

Police registered FIR and began investigation.
