VEHARI, Dec 30: While the Tibba Sultanpur police claimed to have arrested nine members of a gang involved in tanker-snatching incidents, another oil-tanker (VRE-1769) was snatched by unknown dacoits at Chak 116-WB here on Monday .
DSP Habib Ahmed Ghuman told reporters that the police had recovered stolen oil tankers and petroleum products worth Rs18 million as well as illicit arms from the possession of those arrested.
The gang had snatched nine oil tankers, five from Tibba Sultanpur and two each from Thingi Colony and Jahanian. He said the gang was also involved in four unsuccessful attempts to snatch oil tankers and was wanted by both Vehari and Khanewal police.
The alleged dacoits include Mohammad Rafiq, Mohammad Dilawar, Mohammad Aslam, Zafar Husain, Ghulam Farid, Zafar Nasir, Mohammad Safdar Sial, Abdullah Sindhi and Irshad Ali Shah, all of whom are residents of Vehari district.
LOOTED: Four unidentified armed dacoits looted the house of a local landlord, Mohammad Azhar Langrial, at Ratta Tibba after locking the inmates in a room.
Police said the dacoits took away Rs100,000 cash, gold ornaments, a TV set, electronic items and other valuables.
Police are investigating the case.
