Media staff without protective gear

THE media has been under fire for a long time for a host of different reasons. I write today to complain about their utter callousness towards their own employees.

Watching raging battles on streets on Sept 21, I noticed the total lack of protective gear for reporters.

Mohammad Amir, the slain driver of one of the biggest TV channels, took a bullet straight through the chest. Had his employers thought of providing him, and others, with bullet proof vests and helmets, his life would probably have been saved.

While I noticed the top brass emerging immediately to condemn and lament Amir’s death, no mention was made of precautionary measures.

I can only say that those who do not look after their own in their life and not after they are dead are no worse than those wrecking havoc on their people and their public properties.
