Bars' stand on independence of judiciary appreciable: CJ

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that bar association had played a vital role for the supremacy of the constitution and rule of law and appreciated the struggle and cooperation of members of bar to stand firmly on the principle of independence of judiciary.

The chief justice said this on Tuesday while speaking to a 20- member delegation of Kharian Tehsil Bar Association headed by its president Sajjad Akram, who called on him at the Supreme Court building on Tuesday.

The delegation discussed the problems faced by them in their professional field and informed about shortage of judges.

The chief justice assured them to take up the matter with the concerned authorities.

The members of bar assured of their full support and cooperation to bring about improvements in the dispensation of justice and cleansing the judiciary of corrupt elements.

Moreover, the delegation appreciated National Judicial Policy 2009 and struggle of the chief justice for strengthening the role of judiciary in society.

The delegation invited the chief justice to visit the Kharian Tehsil Bar, Justice Chaudhry accepted the invitation and assured them to visit the bar soon.
