Nato denies report of cross-border fires killing two Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD: The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) on Tuesday denied a report published by various media houses about munitions fired from Afghanistan killing two Pakistanis and also about taking ten Pakistanis as hostages in Chaghi vicinity.

A press release has been issued in this regard, which says, “Citing unnamed sources, Pakistani news wire INP ran a story on October 1, 2012 alleging that the Nato forces fired munitions that killed two Pakistani citizens in vicinity of Chaghi and that the Nato took 10 Pakistani citizens prisoner.

The Nato’s International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) categorically denies that either allegation occurred.

Isaf has no operational reporting to support these incidents, nor does it has forces operating near this area.

Isaf forces continue to cooperate extensively with the Pakistani military at multiple levels of the chain of command in an effort to strengthen security in the border area.”
