NAWABSHAH, Dec 30: The local chapter of the Sindh Abadgar Board has urged the growers to stop the supply of sugarcane to the Habib Sugar Mill, Sakrand Sugar Mill and Al-Noor Sugar Mill from Jan 1 to Jan 5 as a mark of protest.

A joint statement, issued by the president of the SIndh Abadgar Board, Nawabshah, Syed Zain Shah, as well as Dr Bahadur Dahri, Sher Mohammad Rind, Syed Zahid Hussain Shah and Syed Noor Ahmed Shah, asked the growers to stop supplying sugarcane to the three sugar mills because these mills were not paying the price fixed by the government and quality premium to growers.

DIES: A senior photographer and one of the founding members of the Nawabshah Press Club, M. Tahir Rauf, 55, passed away because of brain haemorrhage in Karachi on Sunday.

Rauf worked as photographer for daily Ibrat for over 25 years and had received cash prizes from Gen Ayub Khan, former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Gen Zia-ul-Haq.

ROBBERY: Six unidentified armed bandits on Sunday looted the passengers of a Hyderabad-bound bus near Qazi Ahmed on the National Highway.

The bus (LXC-8058), originating from Sukkur, was stopped by six armed persons riding in the bus near Aliabad.

One of the bandits overpowered the driver and drove the bus himself. They deprived the passengers of cash, jewellry and other valuable items.

The bandits disembarked near the Haq Madina police post, leaving behind the passengers and the injured driver.

Later the driver and passengers arrived at the Qazi Ahmed police station and staged a sit-in outside the police station to protest against the incident.

SUICIDE: A 15-year-old girl, Sughran, committed suicide by ingesting pesticides in Punhal Khan Chandio village on Sunday. The suicide was attributed to domestic problems.
