LAHORE, Dec 30: Early morning fog and cloudy weather during the day caused another cold spell in Lahore on Monday.
The maximum temperature which was 20.6 degrees C dropped to 17.7 degrees C. Last night’s minimum temperature was 4.8 degrees C and the Met office expected it to also drop during Monday night, increasing the intensity of the cold weather. It also expected light rain during the next 24 hours.
People wore warm clothes and preferred to remain indoors especially at night. Many from different localities again complained of reduction in gas supply which prevented them from using heaters.
The cold weather was a problem particularly for motorcyclists but still many were seen riding their motorcycles.
Those selling second-hand jackets and woollies increased their prices knowing fully well that it was a necessity especially for motorcyclists. But those who knew haggling got the prices reduced.
A rush was also seen at shops of dried fish and fruit in various localities of the city like Mozang Chungi, Gowalmandi, Beadon Road and Mochi Gate. Prices of dry fruit was also increased and many overcharged from the unwary customers.
According to the Met office, the cold spell had been generated by a weak westerly system that could cause light rain in different parts of the country including Sargodha, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit and Skardu during the next 24 hours.
It also reported fog in Islamabad, Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Dir and Dera Ismail Khan which it said developed for the first time during the current winter.
