OKARA, Sept 30: District and Sessions Judge Allama Muhammad Khalid Rashid died of hepatitis at Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital on Saturday night. He was laid to rest in his native town on Sunday.

Allama Khalid belonged to a modest family. His father Hakim Nizamdin had been an employee of the health wing of the MC.

He joined the judicial service as a civil judge in 1979. He was to retire from service on Oct 2 this year. During his academic career he had won Pakistan Prize for his speech on ‘Siratun Nabi (Peace be upon him)’. He was respected as an intellectual and a literary figure.

He was also special senior judge, Anti-Corruption Establishment, Lahore.

A large number of people attended his funeral. District and Sessions Judge Malik Falaksher Farooqa laid floral wreath at his grave on behalf of Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial.

Qul will be held at 8am on Monday (today) at Jamia Masjid at the Model Cooperative Housing Society.
