Both Wings being treated on par: Bhutto

KARACHI: The Central Minister for Industries, Natural Resources and Works, Mr Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, has accused the Awami League chief and former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. H.S. Suhrawardy, of giving “false” statements relating to the flood situation in East Pakistan, thereby endangering solidarity between the two Wings of the country.

In a statement issued yesterday, he said it was ironical that those who were responsible for the deterioration in the country’s economic and political life, now deemed it appropriate to suggest what should be and what should not be done.

Mr Bhutto emphasised that the present government was treating on priority basis the development programmes in both Wings of the country.

Mr Bhutto said the record of the Revolutionary Government during the last three-and-a-half years and the efforts that had been made to accelerate the development of East Pakistan would bear comparison with what was planned, executed or achieved during the time when Mr Suhrawardy and the politicians of his ilk were at the helm of affairs.

Mr Bhutto added it was travesty of facts to say that the problem of flood control had been ignored. — Agencies
