Life of Pi - film that transcends global emotions

The festive month of November will bear witness to one of the biggest visual extravaganzas out of Hollywood since 'Avata'r, Ang Lee's 'Life Of Pi'.

The trailer of the film, that showcased veteran Indian talents Tabu and Irrfan Khan along with debutant Suraj Sharma, as well as the breathtakingly vibrant colours of Pondicherry and Munnar has already gone viral, according to a  report in Times of India.

Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios, says, "Every once in a while there comes a movie which transcends emotions across the world. Life Of Pi is not only a global showcase of India and Indian talent, but a soaring and immersive 3D experience from one of the most celebrated film makers in cinema."

The Indian appeal of Ang Lee's magnum opus is visible with every scene of the film. "We searched throughout India for a young man who had the innocence to capture our attention, the depth of character to break our hearts, and the physicality needed to embody Pi on his journey," says Lee, adding, "During his audition, Suraj filled the room with emotion, much of which he conveyed simply through his eyes. His natural ability to believe and stay in the world of the story is a rare treasure."

Irrfan Khan, who plays the older Pi in the film, says, "When we meet the older Pi, he is reflecting on the earlier part of life, what really formed him. The experiences he had when he was younger were very important and fascinating," says Irrfan.

"Curiosity and questioning were instinctive for him before he lost his family. He was already in an exploration mode. He was fascinated by things; He was never conditioned by one thing, so that really created openness. He took risks. Pi is still trying to seek answers to those difficult questions about life: why are we here?"

Buzz is that the director and team may even fly down to India for special LOP promotions around the release. Life of Pi 3D releases on November 23 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
