Sharifs alone to decide Azhar’s fate: Raja

LAHORE, Dec 29: The exiled Sharifs alone are in a position to decide whether to resolve differences with former PML-Q president Mian Azhar and join hands with him, the PML-N chief said on Sunday.

Raja Zafarul Haq, the party chairman, said while talking to Dawnthat nobody was in a position to mediate between the two sides.

Mian Azhar and the Sharifs, he recalled, had so strong family ties in the past that nobody else was in a position to play any role in bringing them closer.

The former PML-Q chief had hinted on Saturday and then on Sunday that though for the timebeing he was not in contact with the Sharifs, there was no final word in politics.

Raja was asked what Mian Azhar should do to resolve his differences with the exiled Sharifs.

The PML-N chairman recalled that when differences had started appearing between the two sides, he had advised Mian Azhar to exercise restraint and make not the gulf unbridgeable.

He said he was not in a position to say how the deposed prime minister and his brother would react to reports that Mian Azhar might mend his ties with them and whether the former Punjab governor would at all take any initiative.

“If the two sides sit together, they can reach some decision. Nobody else is in a position to do anything in this regard”, Raja said.
