PESHAWAR, Sept 25: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health department is committed to fulfilling its international obligation of eradicating polio and continuing its cooperation to the UN agencies as agreed.

In a statement on Tuesday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa special secretary health Prof Noorul Iman denied a story appeared in this newspaper that the KP was shifting its focus from polio to other diseases. He said while polio and other projects were being integrated into a regular structure the government firmly stuck to its commitment towards global polio eradication efforts.

He said the government had framed long-term and emergency plans to cope with polio and other immunisation campaigns.

The government would continue working with WHO, Unicef and other donor agencies regarding polio immunisation efforts, he said. We need to put in place a system through which children of immunisable ages will get vaccination, he said. —Bureau Report
