PPP, MQM invite politicians to improve local govt ordinance

KARACHI: Senior leaders of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Tuesday invited public representatives from different political parties to come forward with their respective submissions for any improvement in the Sindh Local Government Ordinance 2012, to be presented before the provincial assembly for its adoption in near future.

Taj Haider and Syed Sardar Ahmed speaking at a session -- Raising Her Voice - Women's effective participation and leadership in Decision Making Program – said the piece of legislation, presently introduced in form of an ordinance will be very soon presented before the assembly for a consensus adoption.

Advising all legislators as well every concerned stake holder to go through the SLGO 2012, the two senior leaders assured that representation of women as well as minorities has neither been slashed nor in any way compromised under the updated local government ordinance.

They reiterated that LGO 2012 is in accordance to the articles 32 and 140 of the unanimously adopted 1973 constitution, based on its integral component of local government and devolution of power respectively.
