LAHORE, Sept 24: A fire in the locomotive of India-bound Samjhota Express delayed the international train for an hour or so on Monday.

The cause of the fire was stated to be a short circuit according to preliminary reports.

Pakistan Railways Lahore Divisional Superintendent Javed Anwar Bubak said that a portion of the locomotive caught fire near Mughalpura station. Railways firefighters reached the spot, detached the locomotive from the Samjhota Express and extinguished flames.

Later, another locomotive hauled the Samjhota Express to Atari after an hour or so.

“All the 312 passengers on board Samjhota Express remained safe,” said Mr Bubak.
