Lok Rahs Theatre festival

LAHORE, Sept 24: Five plays were staged on Monday, the second day of the Punjab Lok Rahs Theatre festival.

The plays staged on Monday are: ‘Ik Raat Ravi Di’, ‘Pukaar’, ‘Dewa Mundri’, ‘Parahi’ and ‘Murday da Rashan’.

‘Ik Raat Ravi Di’ staged by the Punjab Lok Rehs, Sahiwal, at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, revolves around Punjab’s struggle for freedom from foreign yoke. The play shows that while a lot is known about the rebellion of various classes in the northern India, the struggles waged in Punjab are largely ignored by official historians of both India and Pakistan. ‘Pukaar’ by the Odeum Art Society, the University of Gujrat, was staged at the National College of Arts (NCA). The play depicts the situation of forced marriages in the Pakistani society.

‘Dewa Mundri’ was also staged at the NCA by Fareed Rang, Lahore. ‘Fareed Rang’, a Lahore-based troupe, consists of students from various universities. The play is about poor woman ‘Taro’ and her son ‘Ala Din’. Taro works as maid for living. The play is a satire on society in which everyone wants to have shortcuts to be rich. Taro is out of the dirty game but Ala Din wants to be rich without doing anything.

The University of Lahore presented ‘Murday da Rashan’ at the UVAS. The play depicts the story of a working class family in which every member wants to steal inheritance from their grandfather.

The performances were highly appreciated by the audience and concluded with ‘dhol’ and ‘jhoomer’ performances by the students of COMSATS University of Science and Technology. They staged play ‘Parahi’ at the NCA. — Staff Reporter
