KARACHI, Dec 29: A teenage boy suffered serious burns in his house at New Karachi on Sunday.

Police said that Abid Mahmood, aged 12, suffered serious burns when he lit a candle during a power failure in his house in sector 11-A of New Karachi. Due to gas leakage, he suffered burns.

He has been admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors said the boy had suffered 100 per cent burns.

ROAD ACCIDENTS: Reckless driving claimed three lives in the city on Sunday.

A 12-year-old boy died in a hit-and-run accident in Gulzar-i-Hijri at night.

Vinod Kumar, aged 12, was run over by an unknown speeding truck near Al-Asif Square. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

A young cyclist died in a road accident in Korangi Industrial Area.

Police said that an unidentified cyclist was knocked down by a speeding taxi in sector 27 on the main KIA Road. He was rushed to the Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The taxi escaped after the accident.

A young man died in a hit-and-run accident on Hub River Road in Mochko police limits.

Police said that Mohammed Ibrahim, aged 30, was run over by an unknown vehicle near Naval Colony on Hub River Road. He was rushed to Civil Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

A young man was seriously injured in a road accident in Defence late Saturday night.

A speeding Mazda truck (KG-5313) hit a car at the crossing of 10th street and Sunset Boulevard and sped off.

A motorist passing through there witnessed the accident and chased the truck and noted down its registration number.

The injured man, identified as Naushad, was rushed to the JPMC in a private vehicle. Later he was shifted to Aga Khan Hospital, where doctors described his condition as serious.

CARJACKING: Nineteen vehicles — seven cars and 12 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Sunday, police said.

Two cars were hijacked. Five others were stolen.

Six motorcycles were hijacked. Six others were stolen.

Police also claimed on Sunday to have recovered six vehicles in the city.

INJURED: A teenage boy was critically injured when a stray bullet hit him in Nazimabad on Sunday.

Police said that 14-year-old Shahrukh was playing cricket in Jinnah College Ground in Nazimabad in the police limits of Paposhnagar when he was hit by a bullet in the back.

He has been admitted to nearby Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. His condition was stated to be serious as the bullet had pierced through his lungs, sources at the hospital said.
