KOHAT, Dec 28: Some unknown tribesmen blew up a Wapda tower on Friday for the third time in four months in the tribal Kohat, Frontier region of Darra Adam Khel, disrupting power supply to the adjoining settled areas.

A Wapda spokesman told Dawn on Saturday that the same tower No.93 had been damaged by the tribesmen twice before, and this was the third incident.

The tribesmen had blown up the tower by planting an explosive device under it, which resulted in extreme damage to the Wapda’s high tension line that supplied electricity to some parts of Punjab also, he said.

Assistant Political Agent Safeerullah of the area when contacted said that as the tower was installed right on the border between the Kala Khel and Zarghun Khel tribal areas, therefore nobody was ready to claim the responsibility of the crime.

He said that so far the authorities were unable to arrest anybody because the tribe guilty of the crime was yet to be identified.

Earlier, the administration had collected a fine of Rs500,000 from the Zarghun Khel tribe after the accused belonging to it had been identified and arrested, he said.

He regretfully said:”The matter is of very serious nature because the Zarghun Khel tribe had assured him that such incidents will not happen again. We are aware of our responsibilities, and will soon arrest the culprits and recover the damages”.
