MANSEHRA, Dec 28: A man was killed when unidentified people opened fire on a convoy of trucks on the Korakorum Highway near Batgram on Friday.
Police said four private trucks which were on military duty and loaded with ammunition and other articles for the troops crossed Batgram at about 11.30pm.
They said that three of the trucks safely moved forward but when truck No GLT-3602 reached Chappergram near the Government Degree College Batgram about 5km from the main Batgram town, it was fired upon by some unknown persons. As a result, Mohammad Haroon, the driver of the truck, received one bullet in the hit and died on the spot. His brother Mohammad Khalid, who was the bus conductor and an army jawan escaped unhurt.
The police have registered a case against the unknown assailants. No arrest has, however, been made so far.
The incident was the first of its kind and the police were investigating all aspects, an official at the Batgram police station told Dawn by telephone. He said had it been a case of simple robbery the attackers would have come and searched the truck but that did not happen.
