LAHORE, Dec 27: Devastating bowling by Wasim Khan (4-63) and unbeaten knock by Rizwan Aslam 40 helped Lahore Whites to see off the first day against Gujranwala with a satisfactory position in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy at the LCCA ground Friday.

Opted to bat first, Gujranwala were all out for 179 in 57.4 overs, By close of play, the home side was at well placed taking the total to 69 for one in 25 overs.

Only Asim Munir showed confidence in scoring a priceless 82. He slammed 12 boundaries in 140-ball knock. But eventually he was fell victim to Wasim when caught by Khurram Chauhan at the total of 161.

In other matches of the pool, wickets fell like nine pins at the Sheikhupura Stadium where 17 wickets fell in the match between the home side and Habib Bank Limited (HBL).

Six wickets haul by pacer Waqas Chughati enabled Sheikhupura to wrap up HBL for a meagre 155 in 38.5 overs who were forced to bat first. He conceded 65 runs. Irfan Fazil from lower- end came to rescue his side and made the major contribution of 53 runs to give some respectability to the total. He laced his 41- ball knock with six boundaries and two sixes.

At the stumps, Sheikhupura were also in trouble losing seven wickets for 140. Test leg-spinner Danish Kaneria snared three for 26. From Sheikhupura only opener Tahir Amin (38) was the main scorer.

Only 37 overs could be bowled in the match between Customs and Sialkot at the Saga ground, Sialkot due to fog. The match started at 2pm. Customs were 125 for four when the stumps were drawn for the day.

ADNAN HITS CENTURY

An unbeaten 100 by Hassan Adnan helped Wapda to reach a respectable first innings total of 243 against Lahore Blues in Group I match of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy at Okara Stadium,  according to a message received on Friday.

Hassan faced 122 balls to score 100 before Wapda were all out in 61.4 overs. Left-arm pacer Muhammad Khalil finished with four for 66 while another left-arm pacer Sajid Ali picked up three for 66.

At the stumps, Lahore Blues were 28-2.

In other matches of the group, Faisalabad were all out for 172 against National Bank of Pakistan at the Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad. Opener Zeeshan Asif scored 59. Duo pacers Imran Javed and Shabbir Ahmed shared six wickets equally for 23 and 50 runs, respectively.

When stumps were drawn, the bankers were 59 for three with Test opener Saeed Anwar batting at 23 and Sajid Ali at 18. Test rejected Imran Nazir could score only six.

Propelled by two half-centuries included Sufian Munir (64) and Bilal Khilji (58) Service Industries were in a commanding position with a total of 217 for six against Sargodha at the Sports Stadium, Sargodha. The match could start at 11am due to the wet pitch.

RICH HAUL FOR ARSHAD

Test discarded off-spinner Arshad Khan snared seven wickets for 25 to help Allied Bank Limited (ABL) bundle out Bahawalpur for 81 in their first innings in Group II  match at the Bahwalpur Stadium on Friday.

Arshad  bowled 12.5 overs included six maiden for his seven-wicket haul.

The bankers were 165 for four when the day’s play ended. Ejaz Ahmed  Junior was batting at 50. Wajahatullah Wasti 43 and  Naved Latif 47 were other main scorers.

In  another  match  of this group Dadu were all  out  at  149 against Multan at the Multan Stadium. Muhammad Salim top scored for the visitors with 61.

Off-spinner Naeem Iqbal snapped up four for 35 for Multan  while pacer Azhar Abbas took three for 38.

By close of play, Multan were 51 for one.
