ISLAMABAD, Sept 12: Two women lawmakers of the PML-N condemned the government in the National Assembly on Wednesday for allegedly moving slow on a case of Rs2 billion loss caused to the National Bank of Pakistan allegedly by its former president and other executives.

The issue came up for discussion during the question-hour session.

On Monday, the house had discussed a case of financial mismanagement in the National Logistic Cell, causing a Rs1.8 billion loss to the exchequer.

Seema Mohiuddin Jameeli of the PML-N asked the minister for law and justice to inform the house whether NAB had taken any action against the NBP administration for the Rs2 billion loss caused to the national exchequer under the so-called Business Scheme of the NBP.

Another PML-N lawmaker, Tasneem Siddiqui, accused the government of deliberately using delaying tactics to save the skin of the accused.

“If the people serving in the government departments could not be caught and investigated effectively what else one can expect from the government investigating agencies?” Ms Siddiqui asked.

Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Justice Division Shabbir Tariq told the house that the FIA was carrying out an inquiry into the case with the National Accountability Bureau being given the supervisory role.
