QUETTA, Sept 12: The acting president of Balochistan National Party, Dr Jehanzeb Jamaldini, has accused the chief of the commission on missing persons, Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, of misinforming a United Nations working group about the issue.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Dr Jamaldini claimed that about 14,000 people of Balochistan were missing but Justice (retd) Iqbal had provided wrong information to the UN group.
The BNP leader said members of the families of 204 missing people had appeared in person before the Supreme Court to seek their recovery.
He challenged the assertion of the chairman of the commission that only 29 people were missing and said that actually about 14,000 people were missing in Balochistan and 480 mutilated bodies had been found.
He requested the UN group to also visit Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Khuzdar and Kech to meet the affected families to ascertain facts.
He said Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry should not have refused to meet the UN delegation because he was fully aware of the actual situation.
The chief of the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), Mr Nasrullah Bungulzai, also criticised Justice (retd) Iqbal for misleading the UN delegation.
He told reporters at a hunger strike camp that the chairman of the commission had minimised the figures to appease intelligence agencies.
